A Global Administrator must consent first

This is Microsoft’s organisation-wide approval. It is not a sign-in, and on its own it gives bilabl access to no site.

What Microsoft will ask you to approve

Permission: Sites.SelectedMicrosoft words it “Access selected site collections”
Approved by: A Global Administrator, once for the organisation
Lets bilabl: Nothing on its own. It opens no SharePoint site until an administrator registers bilabl on one specific site. Every other site in your tenant is refused by Microsoft.
Usable: Any time
This is the permission bilabl works with day to day, unattended, until you remove it.

Permission: Sites.FullControl.AllMicrosoft words it “Have full control of all SharePoint site collections”
Approved by: The same Global Administrator, in the same approval
Lets bilabl: Register bilabl on the one site your administrator names during setup. Used for two calls: read the site at the address they paste, then create that registration.
Usable: Only while an administrator is signed in
Never unattended. It exists only inside an administrator's sign-in and ends with it.

About “full control of all site collections”

It is fair to stop at that line. Here is exactly what stands behind it.

It is delegated, not application. bilabl can use it only while a named administrator is signed in, acting as that person, and it can never do more than that person can already do themselves. It holds no password and no refresh token for it, and no background job can reach it. When the sign-in ends, so does the access.

Microsoft requires it for one specific call. Registering an application on a site is itself a way to give that application full control of the site, so Microsoft sets the bar for performing that registration high on purpose. It publishes no narrower permission for it — this one is the floor, not a convenience.

It is not what bilabl runs on. Once setup finishes, everything bilabl does uses Sites.Selected and its registration on your one site. No bilabl screen or endpoint lists the sites in your tenant, and the permission it keeps could not read them if it tried.

You can end it at any time. Remove bilabl’s registration on the site and access stops immediately, or revoke either permission in Entra ID. Neither action deletes or moves a single file.

What happens next. After this approval, a SharePoint Administrator signs in and pastes the address of the one site bilabl should use. They will not see another consent screen — this approval covers it — and they do not need to be a Global Administrator.

Not a Global Administrator? This step is usually the only one they do. Send them the consent link and carry on yourself once they confirm — you will not have to start over.

A link for this organisation is already out there, valid until Oct 11, 2026, 03:29 PM. Showing it again gives you the same link to copy — it is not replaced, so the copy already sent keeps working.

Sign in so bilabl can register itself on your site

A SharePoint Administrator can do this step — a Global Administrator is not required, and there is no second consent screen. Step 1 already approved the permissions; this is only a sign-in, so that bilabl can register itself on your site as you.

Why a sign-in is needed at all. Registering an application on a SharePoint site has to be done by a person who holds the SharePoint Administrator role — Microsoft does not let an application do it unattended. bilabl acts as you for two calls: opening the site at the address you paste next, and creating the registration. Nothing is stored from this sign-in, and it expires on its own about an hour later.

Connecting a different Microsoft organisation? Starting over clears this organisation's consent. The SharePoint addon stays enabled.
